Professional Artifacts
Here are some of the most meaningful learning experiences I have crafted to explore with my students. Each of these lesson provided opportunities for my students and I to build new understanding of the world around us with creativity, resolve, and a spirit that welcomes challenge.
Who's Who: Black History Month
This interactive multimedia text set provides students with agency and choice as they make discoveries about notable figures in Black History. My students were diverse in their interests inside and outside of the classroom, and I sought to represent this diverse array of interests in the figures in realms of interest represented in the historical figures. By providing students with the choice of reading or watching short videos, I made sure that students of all abilities would have access to new learning. Students then took their new found understanding of Black History to practice informational writing to educate others.

5th Grade Exhbition
For exhibitions, students were split into small groups of 3-6 students and assigned a topic of community action within their micro and/or macro environments. Examples of topics include women’s rights, LGBTQIA+ rights, ocean pollution, and antiracism. Over the course of five weeks, students would learn about their issue, engage in community action to address their issue, and educate others with what they learned from research and action with presentations, videos, and out reach events.

Feelings as Shapes & Colors
One thing I hope to always impart to my students is how much taking care of their well being will in support their ability to show up as their best selves in the classroom and beyond. In this lesson, we worked through four prompts that guides our minds, hearts, and hands to represent our feelings with shapes and colors. With this activity, students were allowed time and space at the end of a long morning of state testing to feel, process, and move through whatever they needed to before moving on the the afternoon's learning.
Fruit Salad Challenge
Developing a healthy relationship with food begins with understanding the ways that food nourishes out bodies. After a whole-class discussion about what we know and don't know about nutrition, students built fruit salads whose nutritional facts met their personal nutrition goals.
